What a hundo is, and why the odds are 1 in 4,096

Every Pokémon in Pokémon GO carries three hidden numbers on top of its species base stats: individual values for attack, defence and stamina. Each one is a whole number from 0 to 15, rolled independently when the Pokémon is generated. A hundo — a 100% IV Pokémon — is one that rolled 15 on all three.

Sixteen possible values, three times over, gives 16 × 16 × 16 = 4,096 equally likely combinations. Exactly one of those is 15/15/15. That is the whole of the 1-in-4,096 figure, and it applies to the Galarian birds because they follow ordinary wild spawn rules. There is no guaranteed IV floor of the kind raid and research encounters get, no boosted odds for legendary status, nothing. A wild Galarian Moltres is as likely to be a hundo as a wild Pidgey.

Weather boost is the one thing that moves the number. A boosted encounter cannot roll below 4 in any stat, which cuts the pool from 4,096 spreads to 12 × 12 × 12 = 1,728. That lifts the chance of a perfect bird to roughly 1 in 1,728 — still long odds, but more than twice as good.

Why CP is all you get before you catch

On a wild encounter, the game shows you a CP and a name. It does not show HP, it does not show the IV appraisal, and there is no way to check the appraisal until the Pokémon is in your bag. For almost every species that does not matter much, because you can catch it, check, and try again tomorrow. The Galarian birds are the exception: they come from a single daily source, they flee after one throw, and a failed encounter is gone for good.

So CP is the only signal available, and it turns out to be a surprisingly strong one. CP is derived from the base stats, the three IVs and the level, by a published formula:

CP = ⌊ (Attack + IV_A) × √(Defence + IV_D) × √(Stamina + IV_S) × CPM(level)² ÷ 10 ⌋

Because the level of a wild Pokémon is a whole number, and because a hundo has exactly one IV spread, there are only as many possible hundo CPs as there are levels in the range: thirty. Any CP outside that set of thirty rules out a perfect bird immediately. In practice that clears about 99% of encounters in the time it takes to read the number.

How to read the charts

Each chart covers one bird in one weather state. Find the CP in the second column. If it is not there, stop — it is not a hundo. If it is there, the last column tells you how much that is worth.

• Level — the level the bird would be at if it were perfect. Unboosted spawns roll levels 1 to 30; boosted spawns roll 6 to 35.
• 100% IV CP — the CP a 15/15/15 bird has at that level. This is the number to match against your encounter.
• Spreads with this CP — how many level and IV combinations across the whole range produce that same CP. The higher this is, the weaker the signal.
• Chance of hundo — one divided by the previous column. Rows at 100% are lit green: that CP is reachable only by a perfect spread.

The lit rows are the ones worth memorising. Every bird has one at the top of its range and a short run at very low levels, where CP values are far enough apart that nothing else collides with them.

What to do with the answer

The point of checking is to decide how much to spend on a throw you will only get once. Three rough tiers:

Guaranteed hundo. This is the case the Master Ball exists for. A guaranteed 100% IV legendary that you will otherwise likely never see again is about as clear as the decision gets. If you are saving your Master Ball for something, this is plausibly the something.

Could be a hundo. A few per cent is not a Master Ball, but it is a reason to slow down and do everything right: Golden Razz Berry, Ultra Ball, curveball, and take the extra second to line up a good throw rather than rushing it.

Not a hundo. It is still a legendary, and it may still be worth catching for PvP — under the Great and Ultra League CP caps, a perfect spread is actually a bad target, and the rank-1 IVs are nowhere near 15/15/15. What the answer buys you is the confidence not to burn a Master Ball on it. Golden Razz and your best throw, and accept the odds.

One thing worth being honest about: none of this improves your catch rate. The birds have a brutal catch rate and a very high flee rate either way. Checking the CP only changes how much you are willing to spend on the attempt.

What counts as a hundo in Pokémon GO?

A hundo is a Pokémon with perfect individual values — 15 attack, 15 defence and 15 stamina, shown in game as 100%. Every wild Pokémon rolls those three numbers independently from 0 to 15, so a perfect roll is 1 in 16 three times over: 1 in 4,096.

Can you tell if a Galarian bird is a hundo before catching it?

Not with certainty in most cases, but you can usually rule it out. The encounter screen shows CP and nothing else, and a 100% IV bird can only have around thirty specific CP values. If the CP you are looking at is not one of them, it is definitely not a hundo. At a handful of levels — including the top of the range — the CP is only reachable by a perfect spread, which makes it a guaranteed hundo.

What CP is a 100% IV Galarian Articuno?

At level 30, the top of the unboosted range, a perfect Galarian Articuno is CP 3077. Weather boosted it reaches level 35 and CP 3334. Lower levels have their own perfect CP values, listed in full in the charts on this page.

Does weather boost change the CP of a hundo?

Weather boost does not change the CP at a given level. What it changes is the range: boosted encounters roll levels 6 to 35 instead of 1 to 30, and no individual value can be below 4. That opens up higher CPs and, because the IV floor removes competing spreads, it often improves the odds that a matching CP really is a hundo.

Why does the same CP appear at more than one IV spread?

CP is a single number squeezed out of three IVs and a level, then rounded down. Different combinations land on the same value all the time. That is why most matches on this page are a percentage rather than a yes — the CP is consistent with a hundo, but also with a number of other spreads.

Is this tool affiliated with Niantic or Pokémon GO?
