Moltres is boosted by Fog or Windy weather. Dark-types take their boost from Fog, which is one of the rarer conditions in most regions, while the Flying secondary picks up Windy. Is a hundo actually worth it for Galarian Moltres?

Moltres has the most defensive stat line of the three: 231 defence against 202 attack, the only one of the birds where defence outweighs attack. That inversion makes it the most interesting of the three for capped PvP, and it changes what a hundo is worth.

The rank-1 Great League spread comes out at 0/13/12 and the rank-1 Ultra League spread at 1/15/15. Notice that the Great League answer is not simply "all fifteens except attack" the way it is for the other two birds. Because Moltres reaches the 1500 cap at a comparatively high level, the optimiser has room to trade a point of defence or stamina for extra level, and the winning spread reflects that. It is a reminder that rank-1 spreads are a property of the CP cap interacting with base stats, not a universal rule.

The practical upshot is that Moltres is the bird most likely to be genuinely useful in Great or Ultra League, and therefore the bird where a hundo is most likely to be the wrong catch to get excited about. A 15/15/15 Moltres is worse in capped PvP than a bird with terrible-looking IVs, and it is not a strong enough raid attacker to make up for it elsewhere. Dark/Flying is a serviceable defensive typing with a well-known weakness set, and Dark-type attackers have stiff competition.

None of which means you should throw a Moltres back. Its low attack relative to its bulk means the CP on a Moltres encounter is a weaker signal about the bird’s quality than it is for Articuno or Zapdos, so a low CP is not the bad news it looks like. A modest-CP Moltres with a low attack IV may be the most valuable version you can catch.

For the hundo question specifically: 2715 unboosted and 2941 boosted are the numbers to memorise. They are the lowest guaranteed hundo CPs of the three birds, which is a direct consequence of Moltres having the lowest attack stat — attack has the largest single influence on the CP formula.
